An art event titled Merotsava was held today at Chitrakala Parishath, where Mysore paintings and Tanjavur paintings created by students of Meru Chitrakala School were put on display. The programme was attended by playback singer Shamita Malnad, actor Anu Prabhakar, artist Neela Panch, artist Dr. Dundaraj, columnist Srikant Balagunchi, and film director K. Ramanarayan as chief guests.
Addressing the gathering, Meru Chitrakala School founder and artist Tirumala Srikanth said that it is a collective responsibility to introduce the richness of tradition and culture to the next generation. She stated that artworks created by the school’s students will be exhibited for the public at the Devaraj Urs Gallery, Chitrakala Parishath, on January 9, 10, and 11 as part of the three-day Merotsava exhibition.
Actor Anu Prabhakar, who attended the event, shared that she had an interest in becoming an artist during her childhood. Playback singer Shamita Malnad said that she used to draw hills, trees, and landscapes earlier and expressed her interest in learning and creating similar artworks after viewing the exhibition.
Artist Neela Panch conveyed her wishes to the students, while columnist Srikant Balagunchi spoke about continuing the guru-shishya tradition. Artist Dr. J. Dundaraj said he felt happy seeing his student Tirumala Srikanth organise Merotsava on a large scale. Film director K. Ramanarayan stated that Tirumala Srikanth, who began as a homemaker pursuing painting as a hobby, was able to organise the event due to her discipline and dedication.
