With expectations steadily building ahead of its theatrical release on June 26, Balaramana Dinagalu has intensified the buzz with the launch of its trailer. Actor Dhruva Sarja attended the event as the chief guest, unveiled the trailer and extended his best wishes to the team. Lead actor Vinod Prabhakar, however, was unable to attend the event as he is currently hospitalized due to ill health.
Speaking at the trailer launch, director K.M. Chaitanya emphasized that Balaramana Dinagalu is not a conventional rowdyism film. According to him, stories set in the world of crime are not merely about machetes, longs, violence and killings, but can also carry strong emotional depth. He said the upcoming film reflects that perspective, making it an emotional and humane story set against the backdrop of rowdyism.
Clarifying the film’s premise, Chaitanya said that although there was a real-life rowdy-sheeter named Balaram, Balaramana Dinagalu is not a biopic. Instead, Balaram is a fictional character, and the film tells a fictional story set during that era. He also addressed the film’s tagline, “Another Chapter of Those Days,” explaining that it should not be interpreted as a continuation of Aa Dinagalu. While the story is fictional, he noted that it draws inspiration from real-life incidents and real people.
The director further explained that he has attempted to narrate a rowdyism story using a contemporary storytelling style. Drawing comparisons with recent franchise films, he said that just as Kantara was followed by Kantara – Chapter 1 and films like Dhurandhar could easily continue in the same format, there was no need to repeat the narrative style of Aa Dinagalu, which released 18 years ago. Instead, he has crafted the film to appeal to today’s generation while preserving the essence that made Aa Dinagalu memorable.
Chaitanya also had high praise for Vinod Prabhakar’s performance as Balaram. Calling him one of the Kannada film industry’s most talented actors, he said Vinod has the ability to portray every kind of role with conviction. He revealed that during the four months of filming, the actor completely immersed himself in the character. According to Chaitanya, Vinod brought the role to life far beyond what he had originally envisioned. He also mentioned that after the teaser’s release, many viewers felt that no one other than Vinod Prabhakar could have done justice to the role of Balaram.

Explaining what sets Balaramana Dinagalu apart from the many rowdyism films made over the years, Chaitanya recalled facing similar questions during the release of Aa Dinagalu. He said that while the earlier film was described as a different kind of rowdyism story, audiences truly understood that distinction only after watching it. He believes the same will happen with Balaramana Dinagalu, which explores the deep connection between crime and society. According to him, understanding a city’s crime also helps in understanding its politics and economics, and the film presents these themes through an emotional and deeply human narrative.
Backed by Padmavathi Jayaram and Shreyas under the Padmavathi Films banner, Balaramana Dinagalu features Vinod Prabhakar, Priya Anand, Ashish Vidyarthi, Atul Kulkarni, Vinay Gowda and Ramesh Indira in pivotal roles. Directed by K.M. Chaitanya, the film has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography by H.C. Venu.
With an intriguing premise, an emotional take on the crime genre and an impressive ensemble cast, Balaramana Dinagalu has generated considerable curiosity among Kannada cinema audiences and is one of the notable releases to watch out for this week.
