Encounter Karataka Damanka, the two shrewd foxes who were the central characters in the Mitra-bheda story series of the Panchatantra. Picture them in a contemporary backdrop, where their art of manipulation takes precedence in Director Yogaraj Bhat’s freshest cinematic venture. In this production by Rockline Venkatesh, the two tricksters find themselves entangled in a drought-stricken village named Nandikoluru, facing a moral crossroads that could alter their destinies.

Director Yogaraj Bhat’s trademark wit and philosophical musings punctuate the storyline. He also plays an important role in the film as Ajjayya, starting the narrative against the backdrop of Nandikoluru’s harsh realities, where inhabitants grapple with enduring water scarcity. Amidst the turmoil, local politics and the desperation of the villagers collide, compelling them to resort to divine intervention via a fair aimed at invoking rain upon their barren lands.

The protagonists take spotlights with their dynamic performances, Shivarajkumar as Virupaksha and Prabhudeva as Basavaraju, who are two fraudsters who capture the attention of the Jailer portrayed by Rockline Venkatesh. In a bid to relocate his parents from the village to the city, Jailer strikes a deal with the duo: aid him, and they’ll secure their freedom. Intrigued by the potential rewards, Virupaksha and Basavaraju embark on a journey to Nandikoluru, oblivious to the transformative experiences awaiting them.

As they delve deeper into the village, their mission takes unforeseen turns. Along their path, they encounter romantic interests Kusuma (Priya Anand) and Kempi (Nishvika Naidu), adding layers of complexity to their expedition. Despite their initial intentions, the duo discovers genuine altruism, employing their cunning tactics for the greater good.

Chemistry between Karataka and Damanaka shines throughout. Shivarajkumar, who is the audience’s all-time favorite, is seen in a different shade in the film, but Prabhudeva grabs attention and adoration with his perfect comedy timing. While the film occasionally falters with pacing and predictability, its core message on the importance of water conservation and holding onto homelands rather than the superficial reality of city life resonates strongly in contemporary times.

The ensemble cast, featuring Rangayana Raghu, Ravishankar, Doddanna, Tanikella Bharani, Biradar, Nayana, and others, delivers commendable portrayals, enriching the narrative tapestry.

Despite its imperfections, “Karataka Damanaka” delivers an engaging cinematic experience. Its blend of humor, action, and social commentary ensures an entertaining viewing experience that strikes a chord with audiences. Whether you’re a connoisseur of timeless tales or seeking pure entertainment, this film fulfills its promises.
