A young farmer from Mandya and an ardent fan of Challenging Star Darshan, Chetan is stepping into the world of cinema with great hope despite facing several setbacks and hardships.

Chetan entered the film industry with just Rs. 183, the amount he collected from his home in Mandya with the support of his parents. Driven by determination, he approached many people in the industry. While a few extended their support, many others let him down.

Putting behind him the bitter experiences he faced in the film industry and determined to achieve success, the young farmer is now trying his luck with the film Devi.

Incidentally, Devi is also the title of a popular Telugu film starring Kannada actress Prema. In Karnataka, former Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa had earlier launched a film with the same title, but the project remained incomplete and was never released. Since that film never made it to the screens, Chetan obtained permission to use the title for his film.

Bigg Boss fame Bhavya Gowda plays the female lead opposite Chetan.

The film carries the tagline, “Amma Andre Thuppa… Amman Andre Halu Thuppa.” Senior producer and actor Kari Subbu, actors Shivaraj K.R. Pete and Huli Karthik, dialogue writer Upparalli Manju, and several others extended their support to the young farmer’s venture and wished him success.

Speaking on the occasion, Chetan said, “I had earlier tried to make several films but suffered heavy setbacks. Because of those experiences, I decided to stay away from the film industry. However, while returning after having the darshan of Sri Raghavendra Swamy at Mantralaya, the story for this film came to me within 20 minutes. When I stood before the temple, the title Devi struck my mind.

“I later came to know through the Karnataka Film Chamber that Madhu Bangarappa had earlier launched a film with the same title, but it remained incomplete. After learning the subject of our film, the Chamber granted us permission to use the title Devi.”

Explaining the story, Chetan said, “The film revolves around a young man from a village who comes to the city to make a name for himself but eventually gets drawn into the world of rowdyism. He deeply worships his mother. That is why we have chosen the tagline, ‘Amma Andre Thuppa… Amman Andre Halu Thuppa.’ It signifies that insulting one’s mother is as sinful as insulting milk and ghee. This is not another Jogi, though it may have the emotional intensity of a Jogi-type film. We seek everyone’s encouragement and support.”

Chetan added, “The main reason I entered the film industry to make this movie is Challenging Star Darshan. My admiration for him, my affection towards him, and his goodness have been my greatest inspiration.”

Talking about his preparation, he said, “I am playing the lead role and have been undergoing rigorous training. Mohan and Rudra Master are training me in dance. The film will feature action, strong mother sentiment, and all the commercial elements required for an entertaining cinema.”

Dialogue writer Upparalli Manju said, “I wrote the dialogues based on Chetan’s narration. For the tagline, I prepared 12 different versions of the punch dialogue. Finally, the director selected the one that now appears on the film’s poster.”
