The title and motion poster of Kshetrapaala, a new Kannada film based on the culture and traditions of coastal Karnataka, have been officially released.

Several films rooted in the customs, beliefs and traditions of Karnataka’s coastal region have found success in the past. Kshetrapaala is the latest project to draw inspiration from the region’s cultural backdrop.

According to coastal beliefs, every sacred place has a guardian deity known as a “Kshetrapaala,” who is believed to protect the region by upholding justice, ethics and righteousness. The film is based on a story inspired by such beliefs. However, the makers clarified that the film is not based on any specific coastal deity. Instead, it revolves around a person who protects a village within a religious backdrop. Themes such as justice, morality, faith, life and struggle form part of the narrative.

The film team has already completed the first schedule of shooting and recently unveiled the title and motion poster.

Kshetrapaala is directed by Jagadish Manjanna, who has over 15 years of experience in the media industry. Actor Raghava Poojary, who has previously appeared in Kannada films in supporting roles, makes his debut as a full-fledged lead actor with this project.

The cast also includes Balraj Wadi, Gopalakrishna Deshpande, Suchendra Prasad, Advika Shetty, Raghu Ramanakoppa, Gauthami Gowda and Namita Kiran in key roles.

The title and motion poster were released at a function attended by Kannada activist Ningegowda, Karnataka Film Directors Association President N.R.K. Vishwanath, actor Raghu Ramanakoppa and other guests.

Speaking at the event, director Jagadish Manjanna said that the film is set against the backdrop of coastal Karnataka and includes suspense, action and thriller elements. He stated that the story unfolds across two narrative layers and combines the traditions and scenic beauty of the coastal region with unexpected developments. He added that the team plans to present the film to audiences in a new form soon.

Lead actor Raghava Poojary, who hails from Kundapura, said that he has previously acted in a few Kannada films and is now returning with a story rooted in the coastal region. He stated that the film presents a story from his native place and also carries a message alongside depictions of local culture and traditions. He added that work on the film is currently underway and that more details will be revealed in the coming days.

Produced under the Muttamma Productions banner, Kshetrapaala features cinematography by K. Naveen Suvarna and editing by Girish Kumar. Music for the songs is being composed by Yatheesh Raj.

Most of the film’s shooting will take place in and around Udupi and Kundapura. The team has already completed the first schedule of filming, which lasted around 10 days. The second schedule is planned to begin at the end of July and continue for approximately 40 days.
