National Award-winning Kannada filmmaker P. Sheshadri to participate in a special discussion on India–Russia cultural cooperation
‘Ruby Cube’, directed by National Award-winning Kannada filmmaker P. Sheshadri, will be screened at the Indian Film Festival to be held in Kazan, in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan. Organized in the context of India–Russia relations, the festival is emerging as an important cultural platform to introduce Indian cinema to Russian audiences.
‘Ruby Cube’ is a deeply emotional family drama. The complexity of relationships, broken bonds and the gradual journey towards acceptance form the central theme of the film. The toy known as the Rubik’s Cube serves as a metaphor in the story. Just like life, it often seems impossible to put all the pieces in place. However, with patience, empathy and persistent effort, its faces can be aligned. Based on a story by Prathama S., the film features Dattanna, Vidyamurthy, Radhya and Dev Devaiah.
The Indian Film Festival, being held at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, will commence in Kazan on October 14, 2026, at 6.30 pm. The programme aims to further strengthen cultural and cinematic ties between India and Russia by screening selected films by contemporary Indian directors with Russian subtitles.
One of the major attractions of the festival will be the screening of ‘Ruby Cube’, directed by P. Sheshadri. The participation of a Kannada regional film in an event reaching Russian audiences provides an opportunity for Kannada cinema to engage in international cultural exchange.
As part of the events accompanying the festival, P. Sheshadri will participate as a special invitee. On October 15, he will speak at a session titled “Filming the Future: Opportunities in India-Russia Cinema”, to be held at the Centre for Unique Mastery in Kazan. Sheshadri has been invited to share his experiences in the film industry during this session, which will discuss the future of India–Russia cultural cooperation, along with the challenges and opportunities involved.
One of the key objectives of the festival is to present Indian cinema not merely as a medium of entertainment but also as a means of fostering cultural dialogue and mutual understanding among people from different countries. According to the organisers’ invitation, the platform will facilitate interaction between Indian directors, producers and Russian audiences, while also exploring possibilities for cooperation in film production and distribution in the future.
The Indian Film Festival will be held in Kazan on October 15 and 16 as part of “TIME: Tatarstan Initiative Mutual Efficiency”, an India–Russia business forum.
In this context, the Indian Film Festival in Kazan is an effort to introduce Indian cinema to Russian audiences while creating a new platform for dialogue between India and Russia on cultural relations. The inclusion of the Kannada film ‘Ruby Cube’ in the festival marks a significant presence for the Kannada film industry in the field of cultural exchange.
