The teaser of the upcoming Kannada psycho-suspense thriller ‘Tarangantaranga’ was unveiled recently by President of Kannada Film Directors Association NRK Vishwanath. Directed and produced by Srisha, the film explores an intriguing narrative that connects the past and present through reincarnation, emotions, mystery and the changing lives of people in a coastal Karnataka setting.
Speaking about the film, Srisha said that ‘Tarangantaranga’ is not a conventional commercial entertainer. Instead, it revolves around the dreams, mindsets and journeys of individuals, exploring why people move from one place to another and what they do to achieve their aspirations. The story unfolds like waves upon waves, with the coastal region serving as an important backdrop.
The narrative moves across different periods, from the 1980s to the present day, and deals with the concept of birth and rebirth. Beliefs surrounding Naga worship and Naga deity vows also form an important part of the story. The filmmakers say the film carries a social message, particularly about the consequences of making vows without fully understanding their implications.
Srisha revealed that the film went on floors in 2020, but production faced delays due to issues involving dates and artistes. A graphic designer by profession, Srisha moved to Bengaluru in 2008 and said he approached the film with a strong focus on perfection.
“Since this is a mystery subject, even I could not predict how every scene would unfold. I wanted to maintain that element of uncertainty and take the audience along with the story,” he explained.
He also shared an interesting personal connection with the project, saying that he fulfilled a vow to the deity by spending his own money on a golden karimani. Describing filmmaking as being somewhat like gambling, he said a filmmaker invests everything with the hope that the audience will connect with the final product.
Anuradha Srisha is the co-producer of the film. Music is by Praveen Shetty, while Praveen Pradeep is also associated with the music and montage portions. The film features songs and montages involving the lead character and a group of youngsters on a trip.
Venkatesh R is handling cinematography as well as editing. Ranjit, a classmate of Srisha, is the co-producer. He expressed his happiness about being part of the project and said he hopes the film becomes a successful outing, especially with his daughter also being associated with the production.
The cast includes Charika, known for her work in the Lakshmi Nivasa television serial, along with Sharat Shetty, Narayana Naik, Vinod Anand, Yashaswini Swamy, Pramod Murali, Dinesh Mangaluru, Rakesh Poojary and Likitha Shetty, among others. The film has been made with artistes and technicians from Bengaluru and the coastal region.
The film is shot at Abhiman Studio, Bengaluru, Baindur and other locales while Sinchana YouTube is also part of its promotional journey.
Actor Pramod Shetty spoke candidly about the film and its underlying message. He said that if financial problems are causing serious difficulties for a family, one should not hesitate to step back and reconsider the situation rather than allowing the problem to destroy relationships. He also remembered the story changing twice yet I feel persons like Srisha should stay in this industry for his commitment and dedication.
