A film produced by the highly acclaimed action director of Indian cinema, Dr K Ravi Varma, is filled with many terrific moments, and in some places, it is startling. Like his professional work, which is filled with swashbuckling style, the film is also packed with dashing moments. The stunning and thrilling screenplay of director Ravi Saranga is the main strength of ‘Rakkasapurudhol’.

Director Ravi Saranga knows the tricks of the trade. He has bravely unfolded various situations that mostly happen in dark times. The layers the director has worked out, the characters he has introduced, the powerful background score, and the performances of the artists are the hallmarks of this film. From the girl child Nisha as Belli to Raj B Shetty, the director has extracted very good performances.

Of course, hell breaks loose in the name of ‘Kolli Devva’ in the village of Rakkasapura. The ignorant villagers are baffled by the happenings that take the lives of a few people. Enter Shiva (Raj B Shetty), who is taking tablets for a complaint and tries to unfold that the superstitious beliefs of the people are incorrect. Shiva, an upright cop, along with his teammates, makes frantic efforts to investigate the deaths of innocents Shobha, Ashoka, and Chytra.

The needle of suspicion now falls on the highly respected Siddaiah. The villagers obey the words of Siddaiah, a divine person. Shiva is not interested in such verdicts, and he goes on his own hunt, finding clues one by one. The ruckus now shifts to a new angle from director Ravi Saranga. What calculations are going on in the minds of the audience take a new turn when the siblings’ story opens up? Yet another interesting portion involving the sibling (Anirudh Bhat) becomes another stunner on screen, when the hallucination of a brother creates havoc for Shiva while he is on his way to save Parvathi (Archana Kottige).

Raj B Shetty has worked stupendously as a cop. As Shiva, he does not believe in the existence of ghosts, but his character talks to his dead wife Roopa in the house. His acting is natural, though the cigarette smoking at various places could have been reduced. Anirudh Bhat is a new surprise in this film as a psychic. The action portion involving Anirudh Bhat and Raj B Shetty is very well composed.

B Suresh as Siddaiah has given an apt performance. Archana Kottige gives able support, and Belli, played by Baby Nisha, is very sweet. Gaurav Shetty has given a neat performance as a cop. The song Siddaiah Swamy Bandha… by Arjun Janya appears on the screen, while another song Neena Neena… is impressive. The background score is very appealing for this film.

The cinematography of William David scores well, as the pitch-dark scenes with fire breaking out bring a sense of fear. For those who love stunning elements and films with a good screenplay, Rakkasapurudhol is an apt selection.
