The official trailer of Ramayana: Part 1, one of the most anticipated and expensive films in the history of Indian cinema, produced by Namit Malhotra, was released globally early this morning (July 30). The trailer, which has captivated fans and audiences across the world, has been unveiled in five major Indian languages—Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, the film has been jointly produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, eight-time Academy Award-winning VFX studio DNEG, and Rocking Star Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The film is scheduled for a grand worldwide release during Diwali 2026. Sony Pictures will handle the global distribution, while Dharma Productions will distribute the film across North India.

Based on one of the world’s oldest and greatest epics, the Ramayana, producer Namit Malhotra is bringing the timeless saga to life as a two-part cinematic spectacle. The story begins with Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara ruling the three worlds since the dawn of creation. When the balance between dharma and adharma is disturbed, Lord Maha Vishnu incarnates on Earth as Lord Rama. The epic revolves around Rama’s righteous battle against Ravana, the invincible, immortal and arrogant emperor of the demons whose power shakes the universe.

The film features an ensemble cast from across Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Lord Rama, while pan-India star Rocking Star Yash portrays the mighty Ravana and also serves as the film’s co-producer through Monster Mind Creations. Sai Pallavi plays Goddess Sita, while Ravi Dubey essays the role of Lakshmana. Joining them are Ramayan fame Arun Govil as King Dasharatha, veteran actress Shobana as Kaikesi, Ajinkya Dev as Sage Vishwamitra, Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha.

The screenplay has been written by National Award-winning writer Sridhar Raghavan. In a landmark collaboration between the East and the West, Academy Award-winning composers A.R. Rahman and acclaimed Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer have joined hands to compose the film’s music.

Speaking about the project, producer Namit Malhotra said, “Ramayana is not just an epic; it is our way of life and a symbol of the values we pass on from one generation to the next. It has always been my dream to present India’s greatest stories on the world’s biggest stage. Today, we have the finest artists and the most advanced technology, and it is our pride to introduce this story to the world.”

Director Nitesh Tiwari said, “Ramayana is the greatest story not only because of its scale, but because of the timeless values it represents. It was my responsibility to present this story with the utmost authenticity and respect. I am confident that audiences will experience the emotions and human values of the Ramayana along with its visual grandeur.”

DNEG, which is producing the film, is a global VFX company with nearly 30 years of experience and has won eight Academy Awards to date. Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios recently achieved major global success with The Garfield Movie. Meanwhile, Rocking Star Yash’s Monster Mind Creations is ushering in a new style of storytelling by co-producing films such as Toxic and Ramayana.
