Samarjit Lankesh has won the Best Debut Actor award at the 70th Filmfare Awards (South) for the year 2024, held recently in Kochi, Kerala, for his performance in the film “Gauri.” This marks the third prestigious Filmfare recognition for the Lankesh family.

Earlier, noted Kannada writer and editor of Lankesh Patrike, P. Lankesh, received the Filmfare (South) Award in 1980 for directing “Ellindalo Bandavaru.” Known for his literary contributions, P. Lankesh was also recognized in cinema as a director. He directed films such as “Pallavi,” “Anuroopa,” “Khandavideko Mamsavideko,” and “Ellindalo Bandavaru,” winning several awards for these works.

Indrajit Lankesh, son of P. Lankesh, made his directorial debut with “Thuntaata.” He later directed films including “Monalisa,” “Aishwarya,” “Huduga Hudugi,” “Love You Alia,” “Shakeela” (a pan-India film), and “Gauri.” He received the Best Director award from the Filmfare organization for directing “Aishwarya,” starring Upendra and Deepika Padukone.

Samarjit Lankesh, representing the third generation of the Lankesh family, made his acting debut with “Gauri.” With this film, he entered the Kannada film industry and has now received the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actor for his performance.

Following “Gauri,” Samarjit acted in the pan-India film “Vrushabha,” which was released last year, sharing screen space with Mohanlal. His performance in the film received appreciation, and he has since signed one Kannada and one Hindi film. These projects are being directed by established filmmakers, and further details are expected to be announced soon.
