The trailer of Oorabba, directed by Lucky Shankar, was recently launched at an event attended by Kunigal MLA Ranganath as the chief guest.
The film is based on the famous Ujjini Chowdeshwari fair held in Magadi taluk and the events surrounding it. The cast includes Once More Kaurava fame Naresh Gowda, Tanisha Kuppanda, Payal Changappa and Siddu Moolimani in key roles.
The makers stated that real footage of the fair was captured using eight cameras by a team comprising M.D. Sridhar, H. Vasu, A.V. Krishnakumar, Bahubali and Eshwar.
Speaking at the event, H. Vasu said that they frequently visited Gowdra village during festival celebrations and that the film was inspired by certain issues and incidents associated with the fair. He added that the dialogues were written collectively by the team.
Director Lucky Shankar said that he had made the film based on his faith in Goddess Chowdeshwari. He stated that he has previously worked on content-driven films and decided to explore a different concept with Oorabba. According to him, local residents extended significant support during the shooting process.
Shankar said that producer Naresh Gowda supported the project from the beginning. He explained that the fair begins 15 days after the Ugadi festival and credited dialogue writers H. Vasu and M.D. Sridhar for their contributions. He added that the fair was filmed live with their guidance and described the effort as a first-of-its-kind attempt in India. The director also said that he researched historical events dating back several centuries while developing the film and noted that some censor-related issues were later resolved.
Producer and actor Naresh Gowda said that Lucky Shankar was the main reason behind the making of the film. He revealed that he had initially not planned to produce a film but later decided to proceed with the project. He noted that many key developments related to the film had taken place on Tuesdays, which are associated with Goddess Chowdeshwari.
Naresh Gowda also referred to a ritual in which six Dalits are made to wear the sacred thread and walk across a fire pit. He stated that around 30 to 40 actors have performed in the film and that he too plays a role. He acknowledged the contributions of numerous technicians and thanked Nidasale Puttaswamyya, Mimicry Gopi and several friends for their support. He also appealed to the media to support the film.
Actress Tanisha Kuppanda said that the film was made through the collective efforts of the entire team and that the actors worked by immersing themselves in the environment and characters of the village featured in the story.
Produced by Naresh Gowda under the Ayush Enterprises banner, Oorabba also features Dodanna, Mimicry Gopi, Biradar, Siddu Moolimani, Mithra, Payal Changappa, Dr. Nanjappa and Aravind Rao among its cast.
The film has music by Akshay S. Rishabh, cinematography by Krishnakumar and editing by R.D. Ravi.
