Four debut directors come together to tell stories rooted in middle-class life, exploring women’s struggles, family relationships and societal challenges through four interconnected narratives.
The title reveal video and teaser of Naaku Thanthi were unveiled at an event that introduced an interesting cinematic experiment featuring four debut directors and four leading female characters. Rooted in the realities of middle-class life, the film explores social challenges, human emotions and family relationships through four interconnected stories.
The title, Naaku Thanthi, also evokes the legacy of renowned Kannada poet and Jnanpith award winner D. R. Bendre, whose celebrated work bears the same name.
Produced by Jayaram Devasamudra, with Yogesh Basave Gowda and Namburi Sai as co-producers, Naaku Thanthi brings together four directors who have drawn inspiration from real-life incidents to tell compelling stories. The film seeks to portray the challenges faced by middle-class women and how they navigate difficult circumstances while negotiating their relationships with fathers, husbands and other family members.
A Tribute to Women and Their Contributions
Producer Jayaram Devasamudra spoke about the effort behind the project and the significance of bringing four debut directors together on a single platform. He explained that the directors had taken the initiative to develop their respective stories and that he subsequently took over the project after portions of the film had already been shot.
Describing the film as a tribute to women, he acknowledged their immense contribution to the success of families and society. Citing his wife, Pallavi, as an example, he observed that behind every successful person are often women whose efforts and sacrifices deserve greater recognition.
He also appreciated the four leading actresses for coming on board and supporting the directors’ vision. According to him, the film is not merely about women and their struggles but also about the relationships between men and women. Through familiar middle-class experiences, the interconnected stories aim to strike a chord with audiences.
Four Directors, Four Perspectives
Gowtham Anvith, who has previously worked on short films and commercials in Bollywood, is one of the four debut directors. He spoke about the confidence that co-producers Yogesh Basave Gowda and Namburi Sai had placed in the team. He also emphasised the importance of the four female protagonists, noting that the film focuses on strong characterisation and content. Actress Roshani Prakash is among the prominent performers in the project.
Preethan Shivakumar spoke about the long journey that led him to this opportunity. Having spent nearly eight years pursuing his filmmaking ambitions, he began his journey by making short films using a mobile phone. While many of his peers went on to work as assistant directors, he continued to carve out his own path towards filmmaking. He described Naaku Thanthi as an opportunity to tell meaningful human stories and noted that the writing process had been completed.
Writer Shashikumar highlighted the effort involved in presenting these stories from a distinct female perspective. He described the filmmaking experience as being akin to attending a film school, offering valuable lessons through the process of creating a two-hour feature film. He also spoke about the segment featuring Sangeetha Bhat.
Mahesh Raj, the fourth director, brings experience as an associate and assistant director, along with a background in the corporate sector. Having worked alongside the other three directors, he explained that the film draws on real-life incidents and personal experiences, lending its narratives a strong connection with everyday life.
Produced under the banner of Suram Movies, with DKS Productions and Saibindu Productions as co-producers, Naaku Thanthi has generated considerable buzz with its unique storytelling format and its focus on the lives, struggles and relationships of middle-class women.
