Multi-talented Ramprasad —dancer, distributor, director, producer, and actor—has scaled new heights following the success of his Kannada film Lanke. He is now directing Detox, a pan-India psychological thriller being made in five languages, including Kannada, with multilingual actor Kishore Kumar playing the lead role.

Ramprasad, who earlier directed Lanke and also acted in Banna Bannada Loka, is directing his second film, Detox. The title of the film was recently unveiled, followed by a press meet.

“I generally speak about a film only after it is completed because I believe our work should speak for itself. The shooting of this film is almost complete, and we are planning to release it by the end of September.

Detox is a psychological thriller. I have written this story by bringing together the struggles and conflicts that exist in the minds of women from the age of seven to seventy. Through the medium of cinema, I have attempted to ‘detox’ the obstacles that exist in society.

The film has a storyline that is deeply rooted in society. Though it began as a Kannada film, it is now being made in five languages. Since the subject has universal appeal, we decided to take it to a wider audience. The film features artists from Kannada and several other film industries. It is also a technicians’ film. We have shot the film in Bengaluru, Udupi, and Mangaluru. As always, I seek your encouragement for our film,” said director Ramprasad Dasappa.

“When Ramprasad came to narrate the story, I told him that I did not want to play another inspector’s role. He assured me that this was not an inspector’s role, and he was right. I will be seen in a character I have never portrayed before. Ramprasad has come up with a very good story, and I am confident it will be appreciated by the audience,” said actor Kishore Kumar.

“At a time when everyone is making films on hypnotism, Ramprasad has chosen to make a film about detoxification. I acted in his earlier film, and I am happy to be part of this one as well,” said actor Suchendra Prasad.

Commenting on the film’s concept, noted actor, writer, and director Suchendra Prasad aptly remarked that the film is about not Vashikarana (hypnotism), but Nirvishikarana (detoxification).

“I had earlier acted under the name Varun. I have now changed my screen name to Adbhuth,” said actor Adbhuth.

Lead actors Kirisha, Tarika Devi, Tumul Balyan, and Vanishree also spoke about their respective roles in the film.

One of the special features of Detox is that six directors, including Nagendra Aras, Guruprasad, Jagadish Koppa, and Manju Daivajna, have acted in the film. The participating directors, artists including Venkat Raju, music director Elvin Joshua, and several technicians also addressed the media.

Surekha Ramprasad is producing the film under The Great Entertainers banner. Halesh has handled the cinematography.
