One of the prominent directors of Kannada cinema, G K Mudduraj, returns to direction after a decade-long hiatus. With over three and a half decades of service as an assistant, associate, and director of nearly 40 films, G K Mudduraj now returns as a producer as well with ‘Educated Bulls’.
“For me, holding the pulse of the audience is more important than holding the pulse of the hero in this film industry. I have seen the days when stalwarts in the cinema industry debated every scene to understand how it would reach the audience. So, as the director and producer of ‘Educated Bulls’ (Vidhyavantha Gooligalu), I am confident that it will click at the box office and ring the cash registers,” he says.
G K Mudduraj made his entry in 1989, and among his 40+ Kannada films as an independent director, he has worked with superstars and earned a strong position at the box office. Jayabheri, Ivalentha Hendathi, Tiger Gangu, Kaliyuga Bheema, Ranachandi, Super Nan Maga, Gundana Madhuve, Shivanna, Love 94, Rayara Maga, Baalida Mane, Police Bete, Thavarina Teru, and others are examples of his commercial hits.
Back after a decade-long break, G K Mudduraj says, “I don’t want to punish the producer at any cost. I am not someone who gives false promises. If I were a ‘bucket’, I would have completed over 100 films in my career.”
Speaking further about his latest film as both director and producer, Mudduraj says, “In life, it is not enough to be just educated. One must also be wise.” Reflecting on the current state of the younger generation in society, he adds that the film shows how four educated youths are led down the wrong path, how they get caught in a risky web, and how they eventually return—narrated with the audience’s perspective in mind.
The regional censor board has certified the film with a U/A certificate. “I arranged a show for a cross-section of people, and fortunately, four individuals have come forward to distribute the film on their own. I am very confident that the audience will like the film and support me further. To some extent, I have the ability to catch the pulse of the audience,” says Mudduraj, speaking highly of his project ‘Educated Bulls’.
On Saturday evening at Renukamba Digital Theater, G K Mudduraj convened a media meet to showcase the trailer and two songs from the film.
The two songs, “Bhagyadalakshmi Baramma” and “Ivalyaro Shiva”, are peppy and melodious, composed by music director Sooraj. “Working with a veteran director gave me a great opportunity to learn,” says Sooraj, who has already composed music for nearly 15 films.
Neeraj, Ajay Ram, Tejas Kumar, and Rakesh play four friends in the film. Poorvika (Sapna) is the female lead. All of them expressed happiness and confidence that ‘Educated Bulls’ will perform well at the box office.
Popular comedy actor Chidanand (of Pa Pa Pandu) appears in three segments in the film and worked for eight days during the shoot of ‘Educated Bulls’. He also spoke about the humble nature of director-producer G K Mudduraj, sharing an example at the media meet.
