Sometimes, the right film finds its way to the right actor. After the wonderfully made Sri Krishnadevaraya in 1970, audiences came to believe that Dr. Rajkumar was none other than Sri Krishnadevaraya himself. Such was the perfection with which he portrayed the legendary emperor—much like his iconic portrayal of Sri Raghavendra Swamy in Mantralaya Mahatme.
Now, another apt choice has arrived. Kichcha Sudeepa is all set to don the role of Sri Krishnadevaraya in the much-awaited historical epic Devaraya. Interestingly, this is not the first major screen portrayal of the Vijayanagara emperor in recent times. Sony TV’s popular three-year television serial Tenali Raama also featured Manav Gohil, who beautifully brought the character of Sri Krishnadevaraya to life.
And now, the role has found its way to Kichcha Sudeepa—fondly celebrated by his fans as the Abhinaya Chakravarthy. Given his commanding screen presence, versatility and ability to portray powerful historical characters, Sudeepa’s casting promises to make Devaraya a significant milestone in his cinematic journey.
Millions of fans who celebrated Abhinaya Chakravarthy Kichcha Sudeepa’s birthday on September 2 received a truly special gift. On the occasion, his next much-awaited and ambitious historical project, Devaraya, was officially announced, instantly grabbing the attention of cinema lovers.
The film is being jointly produced on a massive scale by renowned Telugu production house People Media Factory and SupriyAnvi Picture Studios, owned by Priya Sudeep.
Sudeepa will portray Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya, the celebrated ruler who led the Vijayanagara Empire into a golden era. Known for his extraordinary bravery, astute administration and immense patronage of literature, art and culture, Sri Krishnadevaraya remains one of the most revered rulers in Indian history. Bringing such an iconic personality to the screen is a formidable challenge—and one that Sudeepa appears perfectly poised to embrace.
Presented by Priya Sudeep, Devaraya is being financed by T.G. Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad. People Media Factory, which has established a strong reputation in Telugu cinema with pan-India and big-budget productions such as Karthikeya 2, Dhamaka, Bro and the Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab, is now preparing to make a strong entry into Kannada cinema.
The film’s title and first-look poster have already created considerable excitement among Sudeepa’s fans and cinema lovers. The makers, however, have chosen to keep the identity of the director of this magnum opus under wraps for now, adding further intrigue to the project.
Considering the scale of the story and the extensive technical preparations required, the team is taking its time to mount the film on a grand canvas. Devaraya is currently planned for a grand theatrical release in December 2027.
With Kichcha Sudeepa stepping into the shoes of one of India’s most celebrated emperors, Devaraya has all the ingredients to emerge as one of the most ambitious and significant films of his career.
