Kounteya — another name for Karna, the son of Kunti from the Mahabharata — is now the title of a new film that’s gone on floors. However, this is not a mythological story. The film is a crime thriller revolving around a murder mystery, and director B.K. Chandrhasa chose the title Kounteya as it aptly suits the narrative.

The film stars senior actor Achyuth Kumar and Sharanya Shetty in key roles. The muhurtha (inaugural ceremony) of the film was held at Kanteerava Studio. Veteran actor Shashikumar gave the clap for the first shot and extended his best wishes. Writer V. Nagendra Prasad called out the “action” command, while another lyricist, V. Manohar, operated the camera for the first shot. Producers B.K. Srinivas, Mahesh Babu, Ravi Teja, and Satya Hegde were present as chief guests.

During the press meet that followed, director B.K. Chandrhasa shared that the film is centered around a murder mystery. Sharanya Shetty and Achyuth Kumar play a father-daughter duo in the film. “We are beginning the first phase of shooting from June 9. Most of the film will be shot in Bengaluru and Mysore. There are no songs in the movie — re-recording will play a major role,” he added.

Lead actor Achyuth Kumar said, “I play Ranganath, a sub-inspector on the verge of retirement. The story is about an intense case he encounters in his final days of service. Director Chandrhasa has crafted this suspense-filled story in a thrilling way.”

Actress Sharanya Shetty said, “I play Achyuth Kumar’s daughter and a crime reporter. It’s a powerful and bold role. There’s also an emotional journey between the father and daughter which forms an important part of the story.”

Producer Suresh Kumar said, “I’ve known Chandrhasa for a long time. When he narrated this story, I liked it immediately. I always wanted to produce a film, so I agreed. Earlier, I used to work for an MNC company. This is my first venture as a producer.”

Bigg Boss fame Neethu also plays a female police officer in the film. Cinematography is by P.L. Ravi, background score by B.J. Bharath, dialogues by Harimahadev, and editing by Anuranjan.
