The 1999 Kannada film Upendra is set to be re-released with a prize initiative for audiences, organisers announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

Under the ISH MYRA Producer banner, organiser Parameshwar B announced that the film will be re-released across Karnataka on June 4 in around 100 theatres. The film will be screened only in single-screen theatres.

As part of the initiative, audiences watching the film will be asked questions after the screening. A 10-minute question-and-answer session will be conducted after every show. Viewers who provide the correct answer will receive the entire collection amount of that particular show as a prize, based on priority.

The organisers also announced a separate prize for the 25th day screening of the film. One audience member who answers correctly during the 25th day screening will receive a cash prize of ₹1 crore.

Speaking at the press conference, Parameshwar B said the initiative aims to introduce milestone films from Kannada cinema history to the current generation of audiences and movie lovers. He stated that the project also intends to create awareness about the history and achievements of Kannada cinema and encourage new-age filmmakers and audiences.

Another objective of the initiative is to bring audiences back to theatres and support the survival of single-screen theatres. The organisers also said the re-release would help theatres during a period with fewer new film releases.

Producer Shilpa Srinivas, producer of Upendra, has granted permission for the re-release. The organisers stated that a detailed press conference featuring the producers and Upendra will be held later to share complete information about the project.
