The countdown has begun for the release of director and excellent writer Ravi Srivatsa’s film ‘Gangs of UK’. The movie is set to release on April 10, and its promotional activities have already started. The film will be distributed across the state by Chandan Suresh under his banner Chandan Films.
Prior to this, the stunning teaser of the film was launched on Saturday evening at SRV Preview Theatre in Malleswaram. Senior distributor Sanjeev Murthy unveiled the teaser and extended his best wishes to the team. On the occasion, renowned exhibitor Chandan Suresh, popular producers Soorappa Babu, K. Manju, and others were present and wished the team success.
Speaking at the event, Ravi Srivatsa explained the reason behind taking up this film. “The characters in this story are still alive today and are enraged against the system. Society, the system, and even the police have not supported them, leaving them to suffer in silence. When asked why they don’t come out and speak, they say, ‘You do whatever you want, but don’t bring us out.’ A mother, when questioned, simply points to her children and remains silent, saying she lives for them. There is also another elderly woman whose story is narrated through this film,” he said.
Ravi Srivatsa clarified that ‘Gangs of UK’ is not just about fights, violence, and gangsters. “This is a story of a mother’s tears, and in another sense, a woman’s suffering.
The character played by Prashanth transforms from a Dharmaraya-like figure into Parashurama. This has no connection to the story of ‘Bheemateerada Hantakaru’. The film features characters like Kaala, his innocent sister Kaali, Shivayya Sahukar, his uncle Virupaksha Sahukar, and Rudresh. It begins with a small conflict and shows how people fight and how bloodshed escalates continuously. More people keep joining as emotions run high and the blood ties are strong. It is a raw, rooted story that I wanted to bring to the screen. If I had made it alone, it might have turned even more emotionally intense and violent—perhaps it wouldn’t have passed censorship. That’s why I collaborated with my mentor writer and director M.S. Ramesh. With his support and the team’s encouragement, the film has shaped up well,” he added.
Writer M.S. Ramesh, who penned the story and dialogues, said, “Many people said the trailer looked extremely violent. Those who watched it even scolded us. It’s difficult to judge a two-hour film based on a two-minute trailer. We released it intentionally to get reactions. There is a saying—if you want peace, there must be revolution—and that essence is in this story. We are all calm, but a moment of anger can trigger an incident and lead to unforeseen consequences. Those criticizing now will understand its depth after watching the film. We are not afraid of negative comments because we believe in our film. People like Sanjeev Murthy, Chandan Suresh, and Soorappa Babu supported us and boosted our confidence despite acknowledging the film’s intensity.
After watching the film, Sanjeev Murthy even said it reminded him of K.V. Raju after 20 years. Both Ravi and I being his students, it felt fulfilling. As promotional materials are being released, earlier negative responses are turning positive. Encouraged by the response, we are now considering a sequel. About 30% of the next part has already been shot, and plans are underway. We are confident the film will receive good support from everyone,” he said.
‘Gangs of UK’ is produced by Ravi Srivatsa under the Deadly Arts banner. The film stars ‘Orata’ Prashanth, Muni, Padmavasanthi, Sonu Upadhya, Praveen, ‘Ugram’ Reddy, Satya, Dhillan, Naveen, Prajwal Maski, Umesh, Vikas, Amogh, and others. Cinematography is handled by R. Giri.
