Here are films shot in a matter of hours, known as single-take films, in various Indian languages. These films, ranging from 90 minutes to 48 hours in duration, leave a lasting impression. Now, Muthuraj and his team have undertaken a formidable challenge with their Kannada film, ‘Young Man.’
‘Young Man’ is a two-and-a-half-hour single-shot film that required 13 actors to undergo three months of rigorous rehearsals to achieve perfection in their performances. On September 29th of last year, Muthuraj and his team began shooting in the morning. Although there were some hiccups along the way, they managed to complete the entire film shoot in just 2 hours and 38 minutes, resulting in a continuous runtime on screen.
While it’s not the first single-shot film ever made, ‘Young Man’ stands out due to its commercial appeal and patriotic theme, according to Muthuraj. Nearly 40 members of the film crew worked tirelessly to bring this single-take cinematic experience to life.
Nagaraj Murthy Veenus, armed with a dragon camera and a 450 GB chip, provided a wide range of lighting variations for his four camera operators. The team marked specific spots in and around a house in Kanakapura for the actors to perform, and the dedicated efforts of the team members played a crucial role in shaping this unique single-take film, as per cinematographer Nagaraj Murthy Veenus.
Loki Thavasya handled background music and re-recording for the film, expressing confidence in delivering exceptional results.
Director Muthuraj’s fortune lies in the support of his parents, Rame Gowda and Vijayalakshmi, who invested a portion of their resources in this film. Muthuraj’s parents operate a nonvegetarian food business adjacent to the Kengeri government hospital, and they decided to cater for the film to fulfill their son’s wishes.
Harish provided the remaining fifty percent of the financial support required for the making of this Rs.40 lakhs single-take cinema, ‘Young Man.’ Murali SY served as the creative head and provided valuable assistance in achieving this remarkable feat.
Sunil Gowda, a theater artist, makes his debut in this film, while Nayana Putaswami plays the mother role, and Anand Kengeri, Rashka, and others are part of the cast.
