The Kannada film Thaayi Kastoor Gandhi, directed by Baraguru Ramachandrappa and produced by Janamitra Movies, is set to release on Amazon Prime OTT on March 28.
This film is based on Baraguru’s novel and holds the distinction of being the first Indian film centered around Kasturba Gandhi. Through significant events in Kasturba’s life, the movie weaves a narrative of ideals and harsh realities. It portrays Kasturba and Mahatma Gandhi as personalities who faced and transcended life’s struggles. The film unveils Kasturba’s journey as a mother, wife, and freedom fighter, making it a story that encapsulates both her and Gandhi’s personas.
Thaayi Kastoor Gandhi has been selected for several international film festivals and has won the Best Film Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Editor Suresh Arasu has also received the Best Editor Award.
The film covers different phases of Kasturba and Gandhi’s lives, from childhood to youth and old age. Hariprriya plays the role of Kasturba, while Kishore portrays Gandhi. Srinath appears as Ambedkar. The cast also includes Master Akanksh Baraguru, Sundarraju, Pramila Joshay, Raghav, Sundarraj Arasu, Rekha, Venkataraju, Vatsala Mohan, and Kumari Spandana.
The film’s technical team comprises Suresh Arasu (editing), Nagraj Adavani (cinematography), Shamitha Malnad (music direction), and Maitri Baraguru (art direction). The producer of the film is Geetha B.G., while Baraguru Ramachandrappa has handled the story, screenplay, dialogues, and lyrics, along with directing the film.
