Films depicting the 12th-century reformer Sri Basaveshwara have graced the silver screen before. However, ‘Sharana Shakthi’ sets itself apart by not only delving into the extraordinary persona of Sri Basaveshwara but also shedding light on the significant contributions of other notable figures from that era towards the ‘Kayakave Kailasa’ ideology.

Directed by Dilip Sharma, this film marks his return to the director’s chair after a hiatus of 14 years. Having apprenticed under director Mahesh Babu at Vajreshwari Combines Films, Sharma brings forth a meticulously researched narrative that explores the rich legacy of the 12th-century ‘Vachana Sahitya’. The film’s narrative unfolds in two halves, first highlighting the significance of the ‘Anubhava Mantapa’ as the first Dharmic center established by Sri Basavanna, and subsequently, showcasing the contributions of other luminaries of the period. The majority of the filming took place in Hubballi, setting the stage for the portrayal of characters such as Channabasavanna, Nagamma, Shilavanta, Allamaprabhu, and others, making it a compelling watch for contemporary audiences.

Aradhana Kulkarni, who essays the role of Nagamma’s sister, also takes on the role of producer for the film. She attributes her involvement in production to the director’s vision of encompassing all the ‘Sharanas’ in the narrative.

Renowned figure Goru Channabasappa, leading the Anubhava Mantapa committee overseeing a project worth Rs. 600 crores in Hubballi, extended his support to the team behind ‘Sharana Shakthi’. The song release event saw the presence of distinguished guests such as Rishi Kumara Swamiji and Padmasri Muni Venkatappa.

The cast includes Dhruva Sharma, Ganesh Kallur portraying Channabasavanna, Manjunatha Gowd Patil in the role of Sri Basaveshwara, Vishwaraja Rajaguru as Sheelavantha, Manjunath as Allamaprabhu, and Shruthi Hegde and Ashok Dommaluru. The music director also addressed the media during this event.

Currently in the recording stage, ‘Sharana Shakthi’ features two songs penned by K Kalyan, along with excerpts from the Vachanas, adding depth to its narrative.
