Renowned Kannada film director, screenwriter, and producer R. Chandru has been announced to be honored with an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of Letters – D.Litt.) by Manipur International University (MIU). This honor is being conferred in recognition of his multifaceted achievements in cinema, cultural excellence, and social service.
This is a birthday gift for the noted director, producer and writer R Chandru. At his house in Yalahanka R Chandru is celebrating the birthday with family, friends, industry friends and other well wishers.
The university has praised the inspiring journey of a common farmer’s son from a small village called Keshavara in Sidlaghatta taluk of Chikkaballapur district, who arrived in Bengaluru with just one hundred rupees in hand and has today grown into the “R. Chandru” brand, handling business worth crores of rupees—serving as a motivation to the youth.
Cinema Achievements: From emotional films like Taj Mahal and Charminar to Kabzaa, which hoisted the Kannada flag across 4,000 screens nationwide, his artistic journey has been extraordinary.
Social Commitment: Beyond being a director, through ‘RC Studios’ he has provided employment to hundreds of people and has earned recognition as an ‘annadaata’ (provider of livelihood).
Environment and Agricultural Service: The university has given special consideration to his efforts in Sidlaghatta, where he has transformed dry land into green fields through rainwater harvesting and modern agricultural practices, planted one lakh saplings, and carried out humanitarian work during the COVID period.
University’s Statement: Sharing this message, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Harikumar Pallathadka, stated, “This honor is being given with the objective of bringing together the pride of South India and the vitality of Northeast India.” The degree will be officially conferred upon R. Chandru at the university’s forthcoming convocation or a special ceremony.
