Dr. Devadas Kapikad, a prominent figure in Tulu Nadu recognized for his roles as an actor, writer, and director, is set to make his directorial debut in the Kannada film industry with ‘Purushottamana Prasanga.’ With a noteworthy track record of nine successful Tulu films and an impressive tally of thirteen thousand stage shows spanning 57 plays globally over the last 35 years, Dr. Kapikad brings his expertise to the silver screen.
Known for his wit and humor, Dr. Devadas Kapikad introduces Ajay, the son of Rashtrakuta Pictures owner V Ravikumar, as the male lead, alongside the charming Rishika Naik in the female lead role in the film, fondly known as ‘PP.’ This cinematic venture involved a seven-day shoot in Dubai as part of its schedule.
Expressing gratitude, Director Devdas Kapikad humbly acknowledged this opportunity as his inaugural venture in Kannada cinema, having previously directed nine films in Tulu. He credited the producers for entrusting him with the directorial helm. Dr. Kapikad’s introduction to Kannada cinema was through the film ‘Venkata in Sankata,’ courtesy of Ramesh Aravind.
For the actors in his directorial debut in Kannada, Dr. Kapikad organized three-month workshops. He shared that the real-life incident depicted in the film is a universal matter of pursuing dreams in life.
“Purushottamana Prasanga” unfolds as a true story with a family-centric plot. Ajay, the son of producer Ravikumar, portrays the titular character of “Purushottama” and is hailed as the ideal fit for the role, having studied cinema at the Toronto Film Institute.
Noteworthy actors like Naveen D Padil, Arvind Bolar, and Bhojaraj Wamanjoor contribute to the film’s appeal as a wholesome family entertainer. Director Devadas Kapikad also assumes a significant on-screen role.
The film features four melodious songs composed by Nakul Abhayankar, with lyrics penned by Jayantha Kaykini, Doddarange Gowda, V. Nagendra Prasad, and Kapikad himself. Vishnu serves as the cinematographer, capturing scenes in Mangalore and Dubai. The film is scheduled for a mid-February release, according to Devadas Kapikad.
Ajay, previously seen in films like “Kiss,” “Mehbooba,” and “Spooky College” before pursuing cinema studies abroad, marks his debut as a lead actor, with his father V Ravikumar serving as the producer.
Rishika Naik, an engineering graduate and stage performer, stars as the female lead in her second film, following her debut in ‘Jooni.’ She portrays the love interest of the innocent hero, Ajay.
Shamshuddin, the co-producer of the film, shares that Rashtrakuta Pictures successfully persuaded Dr. Devadas Kapikad to venture into Kannada cinema.
