PRASHANTH SIDDI’S JOURNEY FROM ACTOR TO MUSIC COMPOSER

Prashanth Siddi, Emerging from the tribal community, faced the challenges of poverty with unwavering determination, making a mark in the Kannada film industry with over 110 comedic roles. Now, he takes a significant leap into the realm of music composition for the Kannada film ‘Matsyagandha.’ In addition to crafting five songs, Prashanth Siddi embraces a serious character in the film, marking a departure from his comedic roots. Beyond his current pursuits, he anticipates venturing into direction in the near future.

Music has been an integral part of Prashanth Siddi’s life since childhood, influenced by his mother Kusuma Siddi’s involvement in a theater group. Growing up in the Siddi community, the innate connection to the rhythmic beats of music shaped his passion. Mentorship from Sridhar Hegdeji and a chorus singing opportunity further fueled Prashanth Siddi’s musical journey. Joining the Ninasam theater group exposed him to the ‘Harmonium’ for the first time.

While pursuing college in Bengaluru, a pivotal moment occurred at HN Kalasaudha, where renowned lyricist Jayanth Kaikini recognized Prashanth Siddi’s potential. This led him to the esteemed directorial camp of Yogaraj Bhat and Soori, resulting in his debut film ‘Paramathma’ in 2011. Over the next 12 years, Prashanth Siddi showcased his acting prowess in 110 films.

The director of ‘Matsyagandha,’ Devaraj Poojary, along with friends, noticed Prashanth Siddi’s untapped singing and composing talent, urging him to take charge of the film’s music. Employing traditional instruments like ‘Damam,’ ‘Kankara,’ and ‘Dolak,’ Prashanth Siddi dedicated almost a year to the musical composition. The film features the revitalized rendition of his mother’s composition, ‘Kin Kini…,’ and two original songs, including ‘Deva Baaro….’

While Anuradha Bhat, Hemanth, Naveen Sajju, and Indu lend their voices to other tracks, Prashanth Siddi undertook live recordings at various locations, culminating in the final recording at Renu Studio. The recently released first song, ‘Bhageerathi Bagil Tegi…,’ featuring lyrics by Devaraj Poojary, has already garnered 600K views on YouTube since its debut a few days ago.
