Of late, young filmmakers are of the opinion that a confusing screenplay is the magic of cinema-making. But there is a limit to it. The brainstorming of it till the last frame would disturb the audience’s mind—this is what they do not understand. Why this pattern of too much confusion is followed is the question that arises when we get out of the theater after watching this Out of Syllabus Kannada cinema of 140 minutes.
In short, Pradeep Doddaiah’s intelligence is not properly utilized. The focus on learning to live as “Out of Syllabus” is a pretty good point he made. This motivational speaker not motivating at a crucial juncture of the film is nothing but a setback.
Pradeep Doddaiah, holding many responsibilities for the film, worked hard—no doubt about it. He could have done further research on his screenplay. His selection of artists is also quite good. It is only his narration pattern that deserved to be more tolerable.
As a matter of fact, this is about Divya and Dev’s life journey with many twists and turns. There are a few more characters that travel along but don’t make it very interesting.
Dev not attending the phone calls becomes a deciding factor, and on the other side, Dev, such a brilliant businessman, not noticing the time difference in the messages from Divya leads to further complications. Do they really patch up and decide to live together? That is not possible because of a few villains moving around Dev. Even in the final frame, Dev gets the shock of his life.
Dev looks good on screen and gives a calm and cool performance. Hrithika Srinivas has doled out emotions very well, and she has a good future ahead. Achyut Kumar’s brief presence is interesting.
On the technical front, the film Out of Syllabus is inside the syllabus of cinema-making.
