The mildly successful song from the 1999 Kannada film ‘Upendra’ gained immense popularity after 25 years, and the lyrics “Karimani Malika” have become a sensation. A television serial based on it is also garnering great popularity. Now, a Kannada filmmaker is adapting this title for the big screen.
Chandru Obayya, known for ‘U-Turn 2’, is directing the film, retaining the title of the viral song. He recently announced the title of his new movie, “Karimani Malika Neenalla,” with a question mark above it. The title was unveiled by music aficionado Lokesh.
Speaking to the media, Chandru Obayya stated, “After ‘U-Turn 2,’ I directed ‘Ramu and Ramu,’ which is currently in the censor stage. Additionally, ‘Patty Hudgi Halli Laifu’ is still in production. I will commence shooting for this film next month under the title ‘Karimani Malika Neenalla.'”
The film revolves around a unique love story between a tender coconut seller and a flower vendor. I chose this title to suit the storyline I’ve crafted. The shooting will commence in May and will span 40 days across Bengaluru, Mysore, and Madikeri. There will be four songs in the film, and I will also be composing the music. Ramika Sutara has been cast as the heroine, and details regarding the male lead will be revealed soon.
Ramika Sutara, portraying the heroine, shared, “I hail from Gulbarga and have had a passion for cinema since childhood. I underwent acting training and will be portraying a flower seller in this film.”
Another actress, Meena Kiran, added, “I have previously acted in over 30 films, including one with Chandru. In this film, I will be portraying the heroine’s mother.” Venus Nagarajamurthy is handling the cinematography for the film.
