The dexterous director, adept at managing various aspects of filmmaking, Dayal Padmanabhan, has unveiled a captivating trailer for the Kannada film Kapati, which is set to hit the silver screen across Karnataka on March 7.

At the trailer launch event at MMB Legacy, Dayal Padmanabhan was in an upbeat mood but questioned the feeble presence of the media. He inquired about this with leading PRO Sudheendra Venkatesh, who, in turn, redirected the question to the producers present at the event, providing a satisfactory response.

The apparent lack of media presence disappointed the discerning filmmaker, who is both the producer and creative head of Kapati, directed by Ravikiran and Chetan SP. The film features Sukrutha Wagle as its most recognizable face.

Dayal Padmanabhan expressed his frustration, stating that despite spending ₹1.25 to ₹2 lakh on organizing the event, the absence of media coverage became a matter of concern. This issue was later brought up at the KFCC and KFPA offices, where he lodged an official complaint regarding the lack of media attendance.

Meanwhile, senior producers K. Manju and Ramesh Yadav, along with Avinash Shetty, a producer from recent times, released the trailer and praised its quality and content.

A highlight of the event was an audiovisual presentation by ethical hacker Sandesh, an expert in social engineering attacks. Sandesh explained the dangers of personal data breaches and highlighted how the film Kapati is thematically connected to this issue.

The trailer of this psychological thriller, directed by Ravikiran and Chetan SP, stars Sukrutha Wagle, Dev Devaiah, and Satwik Krishnan in the lead roles. Produced by Dayal Padmanabhan under the banner of D Pictures, the film has already garnered attention for its high-quality trailer cut. Dayal has previously produced acclaimed films like Haggada Kone and Aa Karala Ratri.

Speaking about the film, Dayal Padmanabhan shared that Ravikiran and Chetan SP, originally software professionals, had initiated the film’s production. They later approached him with the project, which he watched and found impressive. After discussing certain conditions, which they agreed to, he took on the responsibility of the film’s entire production. He described Kapati as a rare Kannada film exploring the dark web genre.

“This is a psychological thriller. While most people are familiar with mobile phones, they often lack awareness of how these very devices can be used to deceive them. Our film follows three central characters—a cab driver, a medical student, and a fashion designer—played by Satwik Krishnan, Dev Devaiah, and Sukrutha Wagle. The story revolves around how ordinary individuals fall victim to online exploitation and modern technology-driven scams. It is a tech-rich film that offers all the essential elements to engage the audience. We guarantee complete entertainment without making viewers feel their money was wasted,” said directors Ravikiran and Chetan SP.

“Dayal’s productions are known for their strong content. The director duo has beautifully narrated a delicate story, and my role is also quite impactful,” said lead actress Sukrutha Wagle.

Actors Dev Devaiah, Satwik Krishnan, and Shankar Narayan, along with cinematographers Vikram and Satish Rajendran, also shared their experiences working on Kapati.
