When the movie was announced with the title Head Bush “The Rise & Rise of Bengaluru underworlds” and their first song “Rowdigalu Naavu Rowdigalu” immediately caught the eyes towards the earlier films as Kannada cinema previously given many cult classics, mass entertainers, blockbuster hits in this genre be it Om, Jogi, Duniya, to recent Tagaru, Salaga which has created a space in people heart even to-date. So, the obvious wonder is will Head Bush fall into the mix of these films.
Head Bush Vol 1 “The Rise & Rise of Bengaluru underworlds” is just an introduction to the world of Jayaraj (Dhananjaya) his journey with his gang from a teenager to being Bengaluru’s Don and how the political scenarios around the time period made its influence.
Since the movie is an adaptation of the book “Daadagiriya Dinagalu” written by Agni Shridhar one can expect minute elements from real scenes of the 1970s not just about the underworld but also about how many politicians and also police officers used rowdies to their benefit.
This star-studded film has the best of actors in their tailor-made roles. Though Dhananjaya brings his show-stealer performance yet again as Jayaraj, Yogesh aka Loose Mada Yogi has made his comeback with his best as Ganga making him the audience favorite, another actor grabbing his screen attention was Balu Nagendra as Samson who adds entertainment and humor in the dark world, Vasishta Simha as Kothwal Ramchandra, Devraj as Devraj Urs, Shruthi Hariharan as Rathna Prabha, Raghu Mukherjee as MDN and Prakash Belvadi are few interesting characters who build curiosity for Vol 2 of the film or also make you go back to some internet searching for some real-life answers immediately. And Ravichandran V for a surprise cameo.
Charan Raj’s background score is much appreciated adding an aura to the film but the songs of the movie doesn’t create much impression. Department of Art and Costume lacked fineness considering the period film factor. Over the top slag language might not be a family welcoming content. Captain of the ship for a movie of this scale on the debutant Shoonya’s shoulder lacks experience and maturity for a true subject, additional detailing and research could have put the movie on the next pedestal although the movie has the down bits it manages to sail on.
Vol 1 “The Rise & Rise of Bengaluru underworlds” as said with all the screams of the underworld somewhere Bengaluru in the movie went missing.
Dhananjaya has taken much responsibility from acting to production and his efforts are seen all over the place throughout. Him starting this second production film under Daali Picture thanking the audience and fans for making his first production ‘Badava Rascal’ a blockbuster success was much appreciated.
