The devotional singer, the highly respected Dr. Vidyabhushan, appearing as Sri Purandara Dasa in Haridasa Dinachari for the first time on the silver screen, is now ready for release, and the regional censor board has cleared the film for public viewing.
With the aim of bringing the richness of Indian culture and spirituality to the silver screen, Karigiri Films has produced Haridasa’s Dinachari. The censor board has given the film a U certificate, which mirrors the activity of the entire Indian spiritual world by symbolically unfolding a day’s journey of Sri Purandara Dasa in about one and a half hours.
The film contains beautiful scenes from the daily life of the 15th-century Dasa Shrestha, Sri Purandara Dasa.
Haridasa’s Diary is not a biographical film; it is an experience that transports the audience to an era of deep devotion and artistic expression. The film was shot in ancient rock temples and stone pavilions on the banks of the river Cauvery, near Pandavapura (Gosai Ghat), and such films deserve screening not only in theaters but also in all schools and colleges of the state.
Dr. Vidya Bhushan, Dr. Veena Bannanje, Nirupama Rajendra, and Dr. Jayanta Vyasanakere were present at the special screening of the film.
Through stunning visuals and a touching narration, the film follows Purandara Dasa as he goes about his daily routine, composes his famous song “Jagadodharana Adisidale Yashode,” and indulges in his daily rituals, says the film’s producer and director, Girish.
The trailer of Haridasa’s Diary was released by Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, in the presence of both Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji and Sri Susrindra Theertha Swamiji, both of whom are alternate Sri Puttigi at Sri Krishna Sannidhi, Udupi.
Director Girish Nagaraj says, “‘Haridasa’s Dinachari’ is an attempt to capture the essence of a day in the life of the great saint-poet Sri Purandara Dasa. We believe it will resonate deeply with audiences who appreciate art and spirituality.”
Famous Kannada Dasa Sahitya singer Dr. Vidya Bhushan has delivered an excellent and inspiring performance as Sri Purandara Dasa, bringing the saint’s humility, compassion, and devotion to life on screen, Girish said.
The film depicts the beauty of the daily life of the fifteenth-century saint-composer Purandara Dasa. Purandara Dasa used to visit Abbur village near Channapatna to see his Guru, Vyasatirtha. The visit of Sri Purandara Dasa to Ambegalu Krishna in Dodda Malur’s Aprameya Swamy temple is also depicted, where he composed the poem “Jagadodhara” along with his day-to-day activities.
In this film, a special day—starting with the early morning prayer rituals and ending at night—is depicted, and his saga’s pastimes are woven into the story.

The literature of Sri Purandara Dasa’s works has been used effectively, and cinematography is handled by M. Haridas.
Girish Nagaraj has handled the story, screenplay, dialogue, production, and direction. Dr. Vidya Bhushan composed the music, and the background score was done by Ronada Bakkesh. Suhas Jay edited the film.
