Producer Gururaj Kulkarni (Nadagowda), who has already made a name for himself in Kannada cinema by directing the movies Amrit Apartment and The Judgement, is quietly preparing for a new film. The storyline for this movie, which will be produced simultaneously in multiple languages, has been completed, and Sonu Anand of Hindi Lapata Ladies fame has joined as the writer.
Recently, the Hindi film Lapata Ladies was officially nominated by India for the Oscar Awards. It is notable that Sonu Anand, the writer for this Aamir Khan Production movie, is now involved as a writer for this upcoming multilingual project in Kannada.
Producer Gururaj Kulkarni (Nadagowda) shared, “Having already produced five films and directed two, I conducted an audience survey to understand what kind of films people want to see next. My previous film, The Judgement, received appreciative reviews. Following that, in this survey conducted both online and offline, over 65% of the audience expressed a preference for suspense crime-thrillers. Based on their feedback, we have decided to make our next film in the suspense crime-thriller genre to meet audience demand.” He confirmed that the movie will have an emotional story with a thrilling narrative.
Through this film, Gururaj Kulkarni is eager to connect with an audience that shares his cinematic preferences. He added, “After The Judgement, I wanted to engage more with audiences and understand their interests in movie-watching. I conducted surveys and even talked to people in the streets. After careful consideration, I approved the thriller story. My aim is to create a film that resonates with more people.”
Interestingly, Gururaj plans to produce this yet-to-be-titled film on a pan-India scale, bringing together talent from various languages. He has written the story and screenplay himself and has assembled a diverse team of writers, including Sonu Anand, the dialogue writer for Kiran Rao’s Lapata Ladies.
“Sonu Anand will bring his valuable experience to the story. I met Sonu through a mutual friend. He is also young, and I am confident that he will contribute fresh ideas. Currently, the story is still being developed. Sonu is highly proficient in Hindi, Marathi, and Bhojpuri, and he is focusing on writing dialogues for the film. He collaborates effectively with experienced writers,” said Gururaj Kulkarni.
Gururaj intends to write the dialogues for the Kannada version himself and is seeking storytellers from the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam film industries for the other versions. “The script is almost ready, and I’ve had detailed discussions with Sonu, who is working on the first draft. Recently, while in Bangalore, Sonu made a short film in Kannada and is eager to collaborate on a long-term basis,” added Gururaj Kulkarni.
Currently, the pre-production work for the movie is in full swing, and the team is aiming to hold the film’s muhurat (launch event) during the Diwali festival. Gururaj is producing the movie under his banner, G9 Communication Media and Entertainment. The film will feature actors with wide appeal across all languages. Along with Kannada, the film will also be produced in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, with many popular actors from Indian cinema playing key roles.
