In recent times, horror comedy has become a common theme. The latest venture from New Global Creations, led by Smt Nanda MR, is a Kannada film titled ‘Chaya,’ set against a horror backdrop.
The storyline revolves around four youths who visit a particular house and encounter peculiar occurrences. The explanation for these developments is skillfully woven into the narrative by Jaggu, a renowned dance director in Kannada cinema who has now turned director and has an extensive background in the industry, having worked on over 150 Kannada films over the last two decades.
Anand Arya, Thejuraj, and Ananya take up significant screen time in the film. The unveiling of the film’s songs took place during a media meet.
Despite being labeled as a horror shade cinema, ‘Chaya’ goes beyond its genre. Jaggu conceptualized the film three years ago, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay in its journey to the silver screen. The scheduled release is set for January 2024. The theatrical release of ‘Chaya’ is handled by Mariswamy, a distributor who recently obtained a U/A certificate for the film.
Anand Arya, the main protagonist with a striking resemblance to Puneeth Rajakumar, highlights that the film addresses the issue of meting out punishment to those who commit atrocities against women. The narrative also delves into the themes of financial power and strength, focusing on the journey of the protagonist’s friends.
Producer Smt Nanda expresses excitement about the content and its presentation by director Jaggu. Despite her desire to perform a role in the film, the director declined, citing a lack of suitable roles for Smt Nanda.
The cast of ‘Chaya’ includes Thejuraj, music director Manju Kavi, Siri Music Chikkanna, Raj Prabhu, Veenus Nagaraj Murthy, Ananya, Rajashekhar, Nayanakrishna, Hemanth, Darshan, Nandana, Raj Uday, Killer Venkatesh, and others.
