In the realm of art direction, numerous films have garnered acclaim, with the likes of KGF sequels, Vikrant Rona, Bhajarangi, and Kaatera Kannada films standing out for their impressive sets that added significant value to the cinematic experience.

The spotlight is now on ‘Cheetah,’ featuring Prajwal Devaraj and Megha Shetty, marking the directorial debut of dance maestro Kalai Master, also known as Raja Kalai Kumar. Produced by Rajalakshmi Entertainment’s Pratibha Naresh, the film boasts an expansive and opulent set located in the dilapidated HMT Factory on the outskirts of Bengaluru City.

Set against the backdrop of the sprawling set, reminiscent of the ancient KR Market, the film showcases five distinct markets – vegetables, fruits, mutton, food grains, etc. – meticulously crafted by art director Shivakumar. The set, involving the efforts of nearly 200 individuals over several months, is highlighted by a replica of the present KR Market’s ancient clock.

This grand artistic endeavor incurs significant expenses, with 95 percent of the film’s shooting scheduled to take place within this market setting. Director Kalai mentioned that the remaining portions would be filmed in a village near Mysuru.

Raja Kalai Kumar, making his directorial debut after 23 years in the Kannada film industry as a dancer and dance master, shared his journey. Prajwal Devaraj, essaying the role of a market fighter combating malpractices, expressed the universality of the film’s appeal, devoid of religious or caste considerations.

Senior choreographer Chinniprakash plays the head of the fruit market, while Megha Shetty portrays the heroine. The ensemble cast includes Guru Jaggesh, Shruti Hariharan, Rangayana Raghu, Shivraj KR Pete, Sidlingu Sridhar, Tennis Krishna, and director Shankar of “Vamana” fame.

With a daily crew of 150 to 200 people, director Kalai expressed gratitude to the dedicated producer Pratibha Naresh and the entire film crew. Prajwal Devaraj emphasized his commitment as a director’s actor, praising the film’s sensitivity and touching elements.

Actress Megha Shetty detailed the progression of her role around the film’s protagonist, while other cast members and cinematographer Guruprasad also shared insights during the media briefing attended by producer Pratibha Naresh. The film promises a fast-paced narrative, living up to its title, ‘Cheetah.’
