Vidya Vijay, who has previously acted in films like Yuddha Mattu Swatantra, is making a comeback as the lead actress after a brief hiatus. She is currently starring in Bebo, and the film’s muhurta (inauguration) was recently held at Sri Bande Mahakali Temple. Notable attendees at the event included Upendra’s nephew Niranjan, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce President B.M. Harish, actors Kaushik, Ananthu, and other dignitaries.
Titled Bebo with the tagline “Adre Ivlu Kareena Alla” (But She’s Not Kareena), the film is directed by Jay Hariprasad. It is being produced under the V.K. Combines banner by Vidya’s relatives, Santosh Vijay and Supreet Vijay. The film features music by V. Manohar and cinematography by Suresh Chikkanna.
Speaking about the film, lead actress Vidya said, “If a person is overweight, society often distances itself from them and assumes they are incapable. In this film, I play a classical dancer. It conveys the message that individuals with more weight can still achieve great things if they are determined.” The film also stars Rekha Das as Vidya’s mother, while Radha Ramachandra plays a modern grandmother. Additionally, the film introduces two new actors, Anil and Suryavardhan.

Vidya, a huge fan of Puneeth Rajkumar and Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor, revealed the inspiration behind the film’s title. “Fans lovingly call Kareena Kapoor ‘Bebo.’ In the movie, my character’s name is Mahalakshmi, and she idolizes Kareena Kapoor. Her friends affectionately call her ‘Bebo,’ which is why we chose this title,” she explained.
Director Jay Hariprasad described Bebo as a dance-centric film with an inspiring story. “This is about an overweight individual excelling in dance. Through this film, we want to show that nothing is impossible if one puts in the effort,” he stated.
Veteran actress Rekha Das, who plays the mother’s role, shared her excitement: “Vidya and I previously acted together in Nagabharana. Now, I play her mother in this film. It’s a beautiful role. I have often played comic roles, but here I portray a loving mother who believes her daughter is second to none.”
Most of the film’s shooting will take place in Bengaluru, with a song sequence planned in Chikkamagaluru. For the climax, a dance competition scene is set to feature guest appearances by Shashikumar, Malashree, and Vinod Raj, Vidya revealed.
