The much-awaited film Veera Kambala, directed by veteran filmmaker national repute Rajendra Singh Babu, has taken shape. Kambala, deeply rooted in the lifestyle of Tulu Nadu, has long attracted the attention of the film industry. However, there had been no comprehensive attempt to capture it fully on screen. Rajendra Singh Babu, who shares a deep-rooted bond with the Dakshina Kannada region, has worked for decades to bring such an effort to life.
The trailer of Veera Kambala (in Kannada and Tulu), which revolves around a thrilling narrative set against the backdrop of the thousands-of-years-old tradition of Kambala, was released by Nadabrahma Hamsalekha. On the same occasion, the trailer of its Tulu version, Birdd Kambula, was also unveiled.
Speaking at the press meet after releasing the trailer, Hamsalekha expressed that he released it with great affection. He described art as an ageless, wrinkle-free maiden that keeps human beings eternally vibrant. He analyzed Veera Kambala as a symbolic offering of that maiden called art to Kambala, which itself stands as a symbol of valor. He extended his best wishes to Rajendra Singh Babu and the entire team for daring to bring the earthy essence of Tulu Nadu’s Kambala onto the screen and wished the film grand success. Hamsalekha also noted that Kambala has 7000 years history and recalled Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro civilization.
S V Rajendra Singh Babu, who was the central figure of the event, spoke about the origin of the story, the process of adapting Kambala for the screen, and vividly described the thrilling elements surrounding the tradition. He also congratulated the producers, technicians, artists, renowned Tulu theatre director Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, and Gunapal Kadamba for providing accurate information and supporting the journey. At the same time, he hinted at the unique aspects embedded in Veera Kambala, revealing that the narrative also includes a gripping connection between Kambala and the Mumbai underworld.
The film is produced under the Baba’s Blessing Films banner by Dr. Vineet Vijay Kumar Reddy and Arun Rai Todar, with Rajesh Kudla serving as executive producer.
The film stars Prakash Raj and Ravi Shankar in lead roles alongside Aditya (as a don) , Divya, Swaraj and others are in the cast while Radhika Narayan appears in a special role. The film will also be released in Tulu, featuring well-known Tulu theatre actors including Naveen Padil, Gopinath Bhat, and Bhojaraj Vamanjoor.
With screenplay and dialogues by Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, music by Manikanth Kadri, cinematography by R. Giri, editing by Srinivas S. Babu, art direction by Chandrashekar Suvarna Mulki, and costumes by Kantha Prasadan and Bhasha, Veera Kambala is set to hit the screens on February 27.
