With a different title for Kannada cinema, the film offers many stunning moments and breaks the normal path to hold the audience’s attention. Director Vijay’s screenplay presence is the first hallmark. The performances, along with the technical qualities, invite the audience to the theaters.

A dashing and sensible debut performance by Hemanth Kumar is a bonus to Kannada cinema. A tall and handsome hero is born in the Kannada film industry. Alpha means a dominant, assertive, and powerful person in life. The dominance is shown in different angles through the dexterity of the director. A few characters dominate for both good and bad in the director’s screenplay.

The father’s wish for his son to become an IPS officer forms the normal outline, but the son’s wish is to turn into an entrepreneur by setting up a new company. Strict police officer father Shakthi Prasad (Achyuth Kumar) wants his son Arjun (Hemanth Kumar) to reach higher levels in the police department. However, the son, respecting his father’s loyalty, wants to make him happy by shaping an excellent future in his own way. Arjun is almost set to establish a company, and the bank loan is also on its way.

There is a love angle between Arjun and Akanksha. Akanksha ditches him for her priorities in life and settles down in the USA. At this time, the entry of ‘Khalifa,’ a new type of drug from international sources into Karnataka, becomes a big headache for the police department. Bobby (Karthik) wants the Rs. 500 crore worth drug under his control. It goes missing with the middlemen.

Another turn of events features the top cop and his son Bobby. This draws the honest Shakthi Prasad into the scene. A few heads roll, and the upper hand of the drug dealers proves very costly for the police department. To save his father, Arjun steps in to take revenge.

How Arjun single-handedly traces the culprits, how his father reacts after all the dangerous developments, and the punishment meted out to the drug lords — all this must be watched in Vijay’s screenplay-driven direction.

Hemanth Kumar, in his debut, has delivered a stunning performance. He has the muscular physique, height, and looks to sustain himself in the cinema industry. However, he needs to improve his dialogue delivery. Among the two heroines, Gopika and Ayana, both have delivered good performances.

Among the veterans, Achyuth Kumar as the police officer and honest father wins hearts. In the end, even his role carries a surprise. Karthik of Big Boss fame has good looks and has performed well. Avinash, Manasi Sudhir, Raghu Shimogga, and others have given admirable support.

Anoop Seelin, the melodious music director, besides giving an apt background score, has offered three lovely tunes — “Rava Rava…,” “Gulabi Baby anta Karibahuda…,” and the father-son song “Ninninda Naa Kalithe…” — which score points for the film.

The cinematography provides very fresh visuals. The action portions are very well captured by cameraman Karthik. The dialogues at places by Masthi Manju are appealing, and Nagarjuna Sharma’s lyrics are another value addition to the film.

Alpha… is a paisa vasool entertainer. A new hero is born, and the film offers something exhilarating in the second half for commercial movie viewers.
