TIME AND TALENT INVESTMENT – GANESH

The golden star of Kannada cinema, Ganesh, looking slim and trim on the Pinaka set on the outskirts of Bengaluru, observed that in the cinema career, an artist has to invest only time and talent.

This cinema industry has given good food, sleep, and comfort in life. It is the duty of artists to invest time and talent. We should come in freshness to the set and work accordingly.

A sort of philosophy was seen in Ganesh’s chat with a few media friends. That is also because of Yoga that taught him the realities of life.

Ganesh’s reminiscence went back to his Samagama TV serial days. I did not know food, remuneration, and conveyance is given in this field.

When I and my friend Kiran went to the spot of Samagama… till afternoon we were not called for shooting. Without work, how to stand in queue for food? So we went out for food and came back. Then we were asked whether you had lunch. Oh… we wasted 10 rupees on it, we felt. Later, when the shoot was completed, we were asked to sign for Rs.200. After that, Rs.50 was given as conveyance. Where else do we get such a comfort zone? I decided on that day. Coming from middle class, getting such things, I have to use my talent and time.

According to Ganesh, the most satisfying place is the place of work… the shooting location.

Look at the house. We have to appreciate at least groundnut is super in ಉಪ್ಪಿಟ್ಟು to wife. It is the work spot we get all we want.

Off late, Ganesh is noticing the directors showing accuracy. In Pinaka, even the producer Vijaya of PMF was specific to 800 juniors when there was a shortage of 200.

In another film shoot, I was stunned by the director wanting a particular bua for the shoot. In such cases, I should co-operate even though there is loss of time.

I want 3 or 4 films in a year to come. But it cannot be at the cost of a good script. I come here at 8:30 AM and makeup takes two hours. The traffic is another issue to reach the spot. Driving the car, my assistant does not take risks even though I ask him to go fast. He says, “You are Karnataka Asthi, I should be careful. I don’t worry how others drive,” he says.
