After a prolonged illness due to multi organ disability the handsome character artist Sharat Babu – known to Kannadigas as ‘Amrutha Varshini’ Sharat Babu breathed last on Monday. The talented actor was a best known face in South Indian films. He looked stylish, accomplished and fit for graduated roles in over 200 films.

Aged 71 Sharat Babu leaves behind two wives and four children. The demise of Sharat Babu was fodder for the social media and even Ulaganayakan once offered his condolences but quickly took back his social media.

However this five feet and10 inches agile actor entered the cinema industry as Sathyam Babu Dikshitalu in 1973 from ‘Rama Rajyam’ and never looked back. He had acted in nearly 230 films and won several awards that included prestigious Nandi Awards from Andhra Pradesh. In Tamil films Sharat Babu was recognized by K Balachander for his film Nizhal Nijamagiradu’ starring Kamal Haasan. It is ‘Amrutha Varshini’ of Dinesh Baboo direction featuring Suhasini, Ramesh Aravind and Nivedhita Jain that got Sharat Babu highest recognition.

Some of the Kannada films of Sharat Babu are Kampana, Thulasidala, Ranachandi, Usha. Aryan, Brindavana, Nammejamanru, Neela, Hrudaya Hrudaya etc.

In 2015 the hit pair of Amrutha Varshini Sharat Babu and Suhasini teamed again in ‘Paapu’ Kannada cinema of director S Mahender. Suhasini played the doctor role while Sharat Babu acted as father to Kriti Kharbanda.
