Stri Cinemas announces a biopic on the famous actress Silk Smitha. The previous Silk Smitha biopic, Dirty Picture, starring Vidya Balan, was released in Hindi.
It was in 1979 that Thirupathy Rajan introduced Silk Smitha in Veenaiyum Naathamum, though the film was never released. Silk Smitha made her debut in Vandi Chakram in the same year.
Following that, she became a popular figure in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi cinema, acting in over 450 films and earning the title of “erotic actress.” Tragically, in 1996, Silk Smitha reportedly committed suicide.
A web series on Silk Smitha was also planned by Pa Ranjith, the director of Rajinikanth’s films Kaala and Kabali.
Now, director Jayaram Sankaran has taken on the task of making a feature film, produced by Amritraj. On the occasion of Silk Smitha’s birthday, STRI Cinemas has announced a new movie titled Silk Smitha – Queen of the South.
The actress who will portray Silk Smitha in this biopic has also been revealed. Chandrika Ravi will take on the role of Silk Smitha in the film.
The movie will be directed by Jayaram Sankaran and produced by SB Vijay Amritraj. It is set to release in early 2025.
To mark Silk Smitha’s birthday, the team unveiled a special video. The real name of Silk Smitha, who ruled the industry for nearly 17 years, was Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati.
