One of the noted directors of Kannada cinema, T. N. Nagesh, has conducted extensive research for his 8th film, Kumbha Sambhava. He has delved into the cases related to the issue and collaborated with friends for the production of the film.
Director T. N. Nagesh has focused on the rampant issue of female feticide in society. According to him, there were 983 officially reported cases, but many more instances of Broona Hathye (female feticide) remain unreported. He observes that there may come a time when India has to import women for marriages due to the growing gender imbalance. One of the cases he encountered in the Byappanahalli area, involving a pregnant woman, serves as the starting point for Kumbha Sambhava. The film combines elements of thriller and drama, with scenes shot in Mandya and featuring three action sequences and three songs.
Priya, known for her role in Bheema, plays a police officer for the third time. She explains, “I have always wanted to take on a sports-based film in my career, but this film, which addresses a crucial social issue, compelled me to accept the role. In fact, this is the second time I’ve signed up as a cop after Bheema. I also play a cop in In Custody,” she adds.
The Muhurta ceremony for the film was recently held at Sri Sankashta Ganapathi Temple in RPC Layout, Vijayanagar, Bengaluru, where Naresh launched the film by clapping the board.
Director T. N. Nagesh shared that he wrote the story for the film, with Krish Joshi contributing to the story and dialogue. He said, “This film is based on a real incident tied to a pressing social problem.” Priya, Arjun Dev, Madhu Sri, Shobhita, Kamal, and others star in the lead roles.
The film is being produced by Naganayaka, Tara Nagesh, Sunanda Hospet, Kamal, and David Rayappa under the Milky Moon Movies banner, with Valli and Ningaraju as executive producers. The music is by M. N. Krupakar, action choreography by Kaurava Venkatesh, cinematography by Siddaraju, and editing by Akash.
Priya, reflecting on her role, said, “The story of Kumbha Sambhava is very close to my heart. The director has crafted a strong narrative based on the issues we face in our daily lives. It is a compelling story, especially for girls. While many films have tackled the issue of feticide, this one brings a fresh perspective. My character’s name is Janaki.”
Arjun Dev, the film’s hero, mentioned that the film is based on a real societal issue, with shoots planned in the regions of Mandya, Kolar, and Maddur. He did not reveal details about his role. Actresses Madhushree, making her debut, and Shobhita, in her fourth film, also star in the film. Sunanda, known for her roles in 62 serials and 120 films, along with Kamal, Shivajirao Jadav, and others, complete the cast. This is the 147th film for talented actor Shivaji Rao, who mentions that his role in this film is substantial.
