Pavithran, one of the prolific directors in Tamil cinema with a successful career spanning over 30 years since his debut film in 1991, makes his Kannada debut with the film Karki Nanu BA LLB, which focuses on social justice.

Interestingly, the Tamil director made an effort to speak in Kannada by preparing a written speech in the language and promised to use Kannada in his next appearance. Kudos to Pavithran for this attempt, and he expressed his gratitude to producer Prakash Palani and the team for their cooperation.

Prakash Palani of Third Eye Media, who has distributed over 20 films, is thrilled to introduce Pavithran—a prominent Tamil director—to Kannada cinema. He mentioned that it has been his childhood dream to make a film in Kannada. Pavithran has introduced numerous artists and technicians through his more than 20 successful films. He remarked that his determination led him to make this film. With Puppy already released, this is his second Kannada film. He is a big fan of Dr. Rajkumar and recounted sitting in his car for two days without food on the day of the actor’s passing. In Karki Nanu BA LLB, a notable song features prominently. This film is a remake of the 2018 blockbuster Periyar Selvam. Additionally, Prakash Palani mentioned that he is also working on remaking Love Mocktail in Tamil.

The protagonist of Karki Nanu BA LLB is JP Reddy, who was a child actor in Sundara Swapnagalu during his fourth standard. Currently studying at St. John’s College and running a business, Reddy expressed his excitement about making his debut as a hero under the direction of the legendary Pavithran. He thanked producer Prakash Palani and music composer Arjun Janya. One of the highlights of the film’s soundtrack is a Western rap featured in one of the six songs. For his role as Muthuraj, JP Reddy lost eight kilograms. The film explores a boy-girl friendship in an interesting manner, which he describes as not merely love but something deeper.

Lyricist and director Kaviraj expressed his excitement at working with a new director, noting the valuable learning experience it provides. He admired Pavithran’s attention to detail and sensitivity, particularly in translating every word into Tamil and finding the most appropriate expressions. Kaviraj found the content of Karki heart-touching, addressing issues such as atrocities, the caste system, and love for animals. He praised Arjun Janya for delivering excellent music.

Savitha, who plays the hero’s mother, was present at the media briefing following the poster and trailer launch event at MMB Legacy on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
