The trailer of the Kannada film ‘Thaitha’ was recently launched by former Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) president Ba. Ma. Harish. Directed by music composer-turned-filmmaker Laya Kokila, the film stars Riyan, who makes his debut as a hero, and Harshika as the female lead.

Though the film has a touch of horror towards the climax, Laya Kokila clarified that Thaitha is not a horror or revenge-driven film. Instead, it is essentially a love story with a strong message about relationships and the consequences of revenge.

The film also has a spiritual connection with the Bande Mahakali Temple. Laya Kokila said divine forces associated with the temple have a special place in the film. During the shoot, the temple’s priest, who belongs to the Bandi Mahakali tradition, extended his support, and Laya Kokila and Shobaraj were permitted to stay inside the sanctum for some time.

Laya Kokila: “Media Support Is Essential for Success” – Speaking at the event, Laya Kokila said the film was scheduled for release on the 30th and appealed to the media to support the team in reaching audiences.

Known for his musical knowledge and experience spanning three decades, Laya Kokila has made his directorial debut with Thaitha. He said the film revolves around an ordinary college and a central clue that remains significant until the climax. The story explores love and relationships, emphasizing that no one should be looked down upon. The director said the central message is that revenge can ruin one’s life.

The film features four songs, sung by Anuradha Bhat, Jogi Sunitha and other singers. Laya Kokila added that even the sound of the ‘tamate’ was recorded live for the film, lending authenticity to its musical elements.

Riyan, who plays the lead role, is making his acting debut as Rahul. According to the team, he has performed with the confidence of someone who has already acted in 40 films. Riyan revealed that he met Laya Kokila at a birthday party, and that meeting eventually led to his involvement in Thaitha.

Producer Shahid said the team had worked on the project for the past three years. He described ‘Thaitha’ as a film that reflects Laya Kokila’s passion and dedication, calling the director the very life and breath of the project. Shahid also played a key role in supporting the production, which involved approximately 95 people, three cameras, drone work and extensive outdoor shooting. Co-producer Prashanth Naik expressed happiness at being part of the film.

Harshika, who plays the female lead, described Thaitha as a musical film. She said around 14 characters were constantly present on the sets, reflecting the scale of the film’s ensemble. Travelling from Coorg to attend the press meet, Harshika spoke about the positive atmosphere surrounding the project. She also referred to the song and appreciated Usha Kokila’s singing, mentioning the songs associated with Shiva and Jesus.

The film features Shobaraj in a prominent role, with Sadhu Kokila appearing in a different and interesting character. Pushpa Swamy plays a college principal, while Karthik Rao, Sahana, Bhanupriya, Laya Kokila’s daughter, Roja Reddy and others are also part of the cast.

With its college backdrop, love story, spiritual elements and four songs, ‘Thaitha’ aims to offer audiences a musical cinematic experience. While the climax carries a horror-like atmosphere, the film’s central message remains clear: revenge can destroy lives, whereas love and understanding can make a difference.
