Top actress Urvashi, with 730 films in South Indian languages to her credit and many coveted awards, returns to Kannada cinema with her daughter Teja Lakshmi, a software professional working for a multinational company and residing in Koramangala, Bengaluru. Teja has appeared in other South Indian language films, but her debut in Kannada is happening with the film Bully.
Actress Harshika Poonachcha, who is eight months pregnant and serves as the executive producer of the film, announced the arrival of Teja Lakshmi, daughter of Urvashi, after the first briefing of the film and the title launch event at Kanteerava Studio in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening. Urvashi has acted with all the top stars of Kannada cinema, such as Dr. Rajakumar, Dr. Vishnuvardhana, Dr. Ambareesh, V. Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, and others.
Urvashi, after visiting the Dr. Rajkumar Memorial and paying her respects, said she did not go to the Appu Memorial because she could not accept that he is no more. “When I entered Kannada cinema in 1984, I was in the tenth standard and Appu was in the third standard. We were friends. It is so shocking for me, his demise,” she said. In fact, I danced with Appu in one of his films, Raj the Showman.
Meanwhile, Urvashi postponed her Malayalam film and accepted this Kannada film because the story and screenplay became very close to her. “In the previous years after RSB, nothing touched me enough to accept. Had I not accepted this script, it would not have been right for me,” she said. Urvashi plays the role of Yashoda, the mother, in Bully.
Urvashi plays the doting mother of the protagonist, Bhouvan Ponnanna, in this comedy flick. “I do not want to disclose much about the role. I want all of you to watch the film, and I wish to speak on the success day,” she said.
The actress, with great strength, was honoured with a shawl, her ‘Shravana Banthu’ debut film with Dr Rajakumar huge portraits in black and white and color, a huge garland, and a Lord Shiva idol on her re-entry to Kannada cinema.
