The dream merchant of Kannada cinema, Crazy Star V. Ravichandran, attended the muhurat of the Kannada film Kavala and showed the clapboard for the first shot.

The muhurat ceremony of the film Kavala, produced by Lokesh B. and Adavayya Poojar under the banners of Radhakrishna Arts and Dream World Cinemas, was held grandly at the Kadu Mallikarjuna Temple in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. Chief guest Crazy Star Ravichandran flagged off the film and conveyed his best wishes to the team.

Director Sri Jai, who earlier helmed RX Soori and Bhairadevi, has written the story and screenplay of this film and is wielding the megaphone.

Sandeep Nagaraj plays the lead role in the film, and noted Tamil technician-actor Samuthirakani will be seen in a prominent role.

Speaking at the press meet, director Sri Jai said, “Kavala means tamboola given from a betel leaf. The red color that emerges when it is chewed is what we have depicted in the film. I have woven the story inspired by certain real-life incidents. Blood flows for a strong reason in the film. The story of Kavala (a real-life underworld don) may be an inspiration, but this is not his own story. We plan to begin after Ugadi and shoot in Kashi, Hyderabad, and several other locations. Samuthirakani’s role reflects how someone from another state speaks Kannada. The producers are investing on a big scale, trusting me. The script has shaped up wonderfully,” he said.

Later, Samuthirakani said in Kannada that working with Puneeth Rajkumar in two films was an unforgettable experience. “I know a little Kannada. In this film, I am playing a negative role,” he said.

Producer Lokesh said, “I am into a startup business besides import and export. I have always had an interest in cinema.” Another producer, Adavayya Poojar, said, “After listening to nearly 40 stories, I finalized this one. I had seen Sandeep’s performance in ‘Googly’. I insisted to the director that he was the right choice for the lead role. I did not expect that Samuthirakani would agree,” he said.

Hero Sandeep Nagaraj said, “They believed in me and gave me such a big role. I will perform well,” he said. He has reduced 18 kilograms for this film. He appears in the title role ‘Kavala’ with four get-ups. “I will put blood and sweat into this big commercial venture of my career,” he added.

The film has cinematography by A. Karunakaran, music by K.K. Senthil Prasad, who has composed five songs, action choreography by Arjun Raj and Vikram Mor, choreography by Kalai and Murali, art direction by Pratap Mendin, and editing by Deepu S. Kumar.

The rest of the cast includes senior actors Achyuth Kumar, Rangayana Raghu, Nassar, Easwari Rao, Bala Rajwadi, Kishore, Shravan, Gillie actor, Prakash Tuminadu, and others.
