The trailer of the Kannada psychological thriller Vikalpa has been released at a press meet held recently. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on January 30. Director Jayatheertha unveiled the trailer at the event and interacted with the film team.
Vikalpa is based on the psychological condition Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and is presented as a psychological thriller exploring the space between illusion and reality. The film is produced by Indira Shivaswamy under the Surus Talkies banner, marking her debut as a producer.
Prithviraj Patil has written the story, screenplay, and dialogues, directed the film, and also plays the lead role. The cast includes Nagashree Hebbar, Harini Srikanth, Sandhya Vinayak, Ganapati Vaddinagadde, Swaroop Batch, Pooja Batch, Jayanth David, Dr. Prakruthi, Master Ayush Santosh, and Girish Hegde.
Speaking at the event, Jayatheertha said that new filmmakers bring fresh ideas to the industry. He stated that although he was not previously acquainted with the team, he agreed to release the trailer after noticing their focus on content-based filmmaking.
Actor-director Prithviraj Patil said the film portrays mental conflicts rooted in PTSD, developed using scientific inputs and expert consultation. He added that the film presents suppressed emotions and psychological struggles through a thriller format.
Lead actress Nagashree Hebbar said Vikalpa is her first film and that she comes from a theatre background. She plays a character named Samudyatha, described as someone dealing with inner turmoil while maintaining outward composure. Actor Harini Srikanth, who appears as a psychologist, said the film provided her with a different acting experience and noted the professional approach taken by the team.
The film has been shot in Bengaluru, Thirthahalli, Sagara, Sirsi, Kundapura, and Yellapur, along with overseas locations including Singapore and the Netherlands. Mithun Thirthahalli has worked as the co-director. Abhiram Gowda is the cinematographer, Suresh Armugam is the editor, and Samvatsara has composed the music. Lyrics are by Prithviraj Patil and Kaundinya Kudluthota, with vocals by Siddharth Belmannu, Samvatsara, Sriranjini, and Inchara.
The teaser and songs were released earlier. Following the trailer launch, responses have been observed on social media. The film is set to release on January 30.
