While the highly anticipated Indian cinema ‘Saalaar’ is on the horizon, ‘Paalaar’ stands as the current must-watch due to its portrayal of stark reality on the silver screen, accompanied by stellar performances from the cast.

The film eloquently flows like a river of pain, narrating a tender love story tainted by the cruelty of the upper class.

Jeeva Naveen’s debut film ‘Paalaar’ has garnered significant attention for its well-prepared narrative, spanning 129 minutes, and incorporating various elements. The movie effectively conveys a powerful message, with the revenge plot being a standout aspect.

Drawing metaphorical inspiration from the ‘Paalaar’ river, which originates from Nandi Hills and connects two other states, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, before reaching the Bay of Bengal, the director weaves a gripping tale centered around a marginalized community deceived by the promises of independent India.

Set in the regions of Kolar, Chikkaballapura, and Devanahalli, the film masterfully blends Kannada and Telugu dialogues, offering a natural portrayal of characters and the issues they face.

Rathna, a happy and simple girl with dreams of becoming a singer, faces numerous challenges after her marriage. Her in-laws’ family falls victim to a land dispute, leading to a chain of revenge-driven events that ultimately culminate in an unexpected climax. Rathna’s unwavering determination leads her to seek justice, resulting in a decision that takes everyone by surprise.

YG Uma, an NSD graduate, takes on the central role with remarkable finesse, delivering a powerful performance that showcases her innocence and emotional depth. Thilak Raj, in his debut, displays tremendous courage, ensuring a promising future ahead.

The film boasts over a hundred new faces, with special mention to Mahesh Babu, a television actor, who delivers a commendably cunning performance that deserves applause and recognition in the supporting actor category.

The song “Mounada Bhagilu Teredare Sudina…” composed by Vararaj is a standout among the three, and the cinematographer deserves credit for capturing authentic locations, adding to the film’s natural and immersive feel.

‘Paalaar’ is a compelling watch, skillfully presenting the plight of downtrodden communities and their struggles.
